Why New Orleans?
When we originally decided to go to New Orleans it was because we felt that the children of New Orleans have not been served properly after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. There had been efforts to rebuild, which were greatly needed, but nothing that focused on the children and their ongoing plight. It was, and continues to be, our goal to help restore normalcy to their young lives. As one camper Tiffany said, “I have to play just to get some stuff off my mind.” We continue to listen to their stories and hear what they have been going through. For one week, these kids have a chance to forget the world outside and the tough situations they face. We hope to rebuild their trust in community and give them hope that one day this will be behind them.
